Two weeks full of excitement, fun and happiness. We had two very busy weeks, two younger children around two years old started to join our kindergarden regularly. I am super happy they decided to come, and it’s a great age to start learning basic things. Three other little girls are still too young to stay the whole morning. If they want to, they will come and stay for one or two hours, which is a good agreement, because they get used to kindergarden but dont’t have such a long day like the others. If everyone is in kindergarden now we have eighteen children, which is a lot and sometimes it can get quiet hectic.
It is time to tell you something about the learning progress of the children. Since I am at the bushkindergarden I have done a lot of easy mathematics with three older boys. They already have done it before I came, so I continued with what they already knew and made the exercises harder and harder. We played number bingo, it helps them remembering their numbers in a playfull way. They do know how to add numbers up to twenty and they can build number rows. Nearly every day I have been practicing with them, and they have so much fun doing it. They love to see who can finish the exercise first and who has got the most right ones. All three of them are very ambitious and eager to learn.
Because a lot of other children started to get interested in what I was doing with those older ones I made a few little counting exercises for them. They are able to count up to ten, but get very confused in writing the numbers. I am super happy everyone is enjoying to learn more.
The kids are very good now in colours, they have been practicing it for a very very long time, but some smaller ones it takes longer to remember everything. We do colour games and every time we do some colouring in I will ask them about some. It is a great way of repeating the colours regularely so they will never forget them.
In my opinion I could see a big progress with a lot of the children. For a teacher this is the best thing to know, it makes me glad my time here at the bushkindergarden is usefull and I help them learn basic things, but also get better in English to have more chances in further life.
Our ¨good performance¨ list is still a great success. They learned to accept, that you have to work to get a sticker at the end of the day and everyone is dealing very well with it. No more jealousy at other children and they seem to be always very happy if they do get a sticker. They are proud of themselves.
Our new rule is that stickers can be taken away. It workes out well, because no one likes their stickers to be taken away, so it is a good way to give them a little bit of a punishment.
The past two weeks we learned a few new songs, and I was super surprised about how fast they can remember songtexts. It is so much easier for them to remember songs then a tiny little sentence. Those kids absolutely love singing. They are very musician, they can dance super good, play instruments and also have the rhythm. I wish I would be just like that!
One excting thing for the kids is our little pet mongoose. He is called Crash and recently I have been taken him to kindergarden a few times. Firstly most of them were very scared, it normaly is a wild animal and a mongoose can bite quiet hard. But after a little while they opened up. Crash is very adventurous, so he stared to walk to the kids, playing with their feet and so on. Andreas buillt up a very good relations with Crash, so he can even hold him in his arms. It is good to teach the children to be very gently to a pet, don’t hurt him and respect his needs, which is why I decided to take Crash to the kindergarden and it goes well. Only one little boy is so scared of the mongoose, he always start crying if it comes any close to himself.
A nice end of our week was a little party on friday. We had balloons, we danced a lot and I let the children do whatever they wanted to. We enjoyed our day and are looking forward to a new week!!
